Minster Makes Music

The Name Sake of Your Town Needs You

Minster Makes Music needs your help! The first part of the appeal successfully raised £560k for work on the organ which started in February 2021 and was completed by the autumn of 2022.

The appeal is now being re-launched to focus on establishing a Music Foundation to support music at the Minster in the future. Our target is £500k and we are looking for support from Wimborne town residents, schools and businesses, along with other neighbouring towns in rural Dorset. Its aim is to keep the sound of music firmly in Wimborne Minster at the heart of our vibrant community.

As soon as we are able, we will be working across Dorset on an appeal which will not only support the Wimborne Minster, but also bring people together. The Minster is the heart of the town of Wimborne and people working together to support it, will, in turn, be supporting their town.

We urge you to get involved today and help support a fantastic cause.

Progress so far

From 1st February 2021 the organ was completely dismantled. Much of the pipework, mechanism and console were taken to Mander's workshop in Kent where it was cleaned and repaired and some new stops added.

Some pipes were stored in the Minster and cleaned and repaired on site. Later in the year a completely new organ frame was erected along with brand new casework. The organ was fully working again by Autumn 2022, in time for all the Christmas services.
